Justin Verlander followed up his Cy Young award with the MVP . The Detroit Tigers ace was voted the American League Most Valuable Player on November 21, 2011. Verlander is the sixth pitcher to win the MVP since Denny McLain and Bob Gibson won the award in each league in 1968.
